Konteradmiral Kurt Werner Max Bhmer was a Knights Cross of the Iron Cross recipient during World War II. The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He took command of the 9. Sicherungsdivision onJune 1944. As leader of the division he was shot and killed on a hunting trip together with three foresters at Ventspils in Latvia by partisans onOctober 1944.
